Heal for Life Foundation
About Heal for Life Foundation
Heal for Life Foundation offers holistic residential retreats for people affected by childhood trauma, substance use and related mental health challenges. Founded in 1999, the organisation uses a survivor-led model that combines trauma education, practical healing tools, personalised support and opportunities for self-reflection. Programs are designed to help guests understand how earlier experiences may influence emotions, relationships and behaviour. Qualified facilitators and trained peer support workers create a compassionate environment where participants can work privately, receive one-to-one counselling and take part in carefully structured workshops without being required to disclose the details of their trauma to the group. Located near Cessnock in the peaceful Hunter Valley countryside, the retreat provides space away from daily pressures and distractions. Gardens, walking trails, a swimming pool and outdoor areas allow guests to reconnect with nature between therapeutic sessions, while private or shared accommodation supports different program formats. Heal for Life welcomes men, women, adolescents and families from varied cultural, spiritual and personal backgrounds. Its flexible private retreats can be tailored around individual needs, while small-group programs combine structured learning with peer connection, creative therapies and restorative time outdoors.

Reviews from Guests
The Heal for Life Retreat is set within the backdrop of the Watagans Forest, in the Hunter Valley of NSW. You will be surrounded by local wildlife that you can observe from a safe distance on the property. The Healing week program was extremely helpful in my ability to release my trauma pain and grief. During the week you will learn about triggers and gather more information/tools on how to become more of the person you were born to be. The week consists of the same small group of people from arrival on Sunday afternoon through till departure on the Friday afternoon so you usually feel very safe within a day or two. Everyone there is on a healing journey, so you settle in with like minded people. The care team are there to guide and support you through your healing week. All have required appropriate training to walk beside you as you learn, release, self nurture and grow. You will leave feeling lighter, happier and readier than ever to take back your life and truly live.
I must say that I was sceptical attending my first heal week. To be honest I didn’t accept that I had trauma, nor did I truly understand what it is and how it affects the brain. The heal week for me was life changing. The information I received put so much into perspective for me. I have been given tools to de trigger myself and also have gained an incredible amount of knowledge in how the trauma has affected my brain. All this has empowered me to take control over my healing journey. The week I spent on the property is something I will treasure for ever. It’s a very special place. To anyone considering undertaking this journey I think you will find what you seek in this place. Thank you Heal For Life. 🙏
Over the years I have completed or attended many, many workshops and different types of therapies or seen professionals etc, all were great! This 'Healing Week' at "Heal For Life" has been the most beneficial! Starting with our "Inner Child" when the trauma started, to coping with our life now as an adult. We have been given many new skills to continue healing. The location is set in a very peaceful bushland, with kangaroos and their joey's visiting daily. The Facilitators were all really caring and supportive especially Demi, D and Kat. I believe one day I will attend another Healing Week, you are welcome to attend as many times as you need. You will gain so much strength and releasing by attending! xoxo
Heal for life is life changing and the skills I took away from this retreat will be with me forever. The place itself is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. The educators are inspirational and very warm and welcoming. I would recommend this Healing for Life week to anyone who suffers trauma and needs help. I will be forever grateful for the support Heal for Life gave me.
Doing my first HFL retreat was a powerful, impactful experience. It went to work straight away on the way my brain works, with the aim of releasing long held trauma from way back in childhood....Very LONG-held trauma! The method showed signs of working straight away - Amazing! But not a miracle cure either. Repeated retreats have a cumulative effect, and the techniques learnt on the retreat need to be practiced consistently throughout your week, once back at home. But just the changes noticeable in oneself, and perceived by others on the 5-day retreat, are remarkable, promising genuine change, ie. lasting healing, IF applied consistently. A huge break through for me, personally - going beyond mere management of chronic depression over decades, to actual healing. Heal For Life means just that!
