New Paradigm Trauma Recovery
About New Paradigm Trauma Recovery
New Paradigm Trauma Recovery is a small, private mental health retreat in the peaceful foothills outside Chiang Mai. Founded in 2014, the centre welcomes no more than four clients at once, creating a discreet environment where adults can step away from daily pressures and receive highly individual attention. The retreat specialises in trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and burnout. Its personalised philosophy brings together one-to-one counselling, EMDR and cognitive behavioural therapy with mindfulness, yoga, physical activity and restorative wellness practices. Treatment is intended to address emotional patterns, physical stress responses and practical needs rather than focusing on symptoms alone. A typical intensive programme lasts 14 days and follows a structured rhythm of private therapy, meditation, movement and time for reflection. Guests can complement their clinical work with martial arts, massage, swimming, nature walks and other activities designed to support nervous-system regulation and renewed confidence. Accommodation is set among tropical gardens and includes access to a saltwater pool, Finnish sauna, spa services and private or shared rooms with en suite facilities. New Paradigm is primarily a trauma and mental health retreat rather than a medical detox or conventional addiction rehabilitation centre; people with significant alcohol or drug dependence may need detoxification elsewhere before admission.

Real experiences from people who've been there.
I walked into New Paradigm carrying the weight of a lifetime. It felt as though I had a mountain resting inside my chest and a knot in my stomach that had become so familiar I assumed it would remain with me forever. Today, I leave lighter than a feather. If someone had told me such a transformation was possible in such a short time, I would never have believed them. There are gifts that change a season of your life, and there are gifts that change the direction of your life. This was the latter. Before stepping through the doors, I made one promise to myself: I chose to surrender - to the process, to Dirk’s guidance, and to whatever healing had in store for me. Looking back, I believe that surrender became the foundation for everything that followed. My only responsibility was to remain open. Dirk took care of the rest. What astonished me most was not only Dirk Lambert’s extraordinary understanding of trauma, but his understanding of life itself. Whether our conversations explored neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, relationships, purpose, grief, spirituality, or the countless complexities of being human, he met every question with remarkable clarity. Sitting with him felt less like speaking to a therapist and more like learning from someone who has devoted his life to understanding what it truly means to be human. Every part of the programme built upon the last. EMDR, CBT, NLP, the daily workshops, and even the conversations in between worked together seamlessly, each one deepening the impact of the last. Every day brought greater clarity, deeper freedom, and a renewed sense of possibility. I left each workshop energised, inspired, and profoundly hopeful. I often struggled to fall asleep afterwards - not because I couldn’t rest, but because I felt so deeply alive. Every workshop revealed another layer of freedom and another reminder of what life can feel like when you are no longer surviving, but truly living. The EMDR sessions transformed something I had believed would take years to untangle. By the third day, the knot I had carried in my body for so long had simply disappeared. Not suppressed. Not hidden. Gone. The greatest transformation wasn’t that my past disappeared - it was that it finally stopped deciding who I could become. For the first time in years, my body felt like a safe place to call home. New Paradigm is a reflection of an extraordinary team. If Dirk helped me lay down the weight I had carried for years, Kae gently reminded me, every single day, what it felt like to be cared for with wholehearted generosity. Her warmth, radiant smile, and the love she poured into every meal nourished far more than my body - they touched my soul. Atith brought a calm, joyful presence through yoga and Muay Thai, adding another dimension of strength and balance to the experience. Leila’s CBT sessions offered clarity, perspective, and practical tools that beautifully complemented the deeper therapeutic work. Healing at New Paradigm doesn’t happen only in the therapy room - it lives in every conversation, every shared meal, every smile, and every act of genuine care. The most remarkable part of this experience was not learning how to recover - it was remembering how to live. For years, survival was my identity. Today, it is only a chapter in my story. This programme is not simply about recovery. It is about remembering who you were before survival convinced you to become someone else. I came hoping to feel better. I left understanding what it truly means to feel free. My future is no longer organised around fear. I wake with genuine excitement for tomorrow. Life is no longer something to endure - it is something I finally get to embrace with courage, curiosity, and joy. Many people promise healing. Dirk quietly helps people reclaim themselves. This testimonial is not written out of courtesy. It is simply the very least I can offer in return for a gift that words will never be large enough to repay.✨ Thank you Dirk for giving me my life back.✨🌸🙏🏻🩵#Forever Greatfull#
I have been lucky enough to be an outpatient of Dirk at New Paradigm. What a unique opportunity! The setting The setting of the centre is truly special, nestled within a superb garden that Khanittha, his wife, looks after so beautifully. The atmosphere alone feels healing, calm and uplifting. 😌 Dirk as a therapist and person Regarding Dirk himself, what a grounded, kind, generous and knowledgeable gentleman. I always left their place radiating with positivity and warmth. 🤩 When I arrived vulnerable, both Dirk and Khanittha looked after me with great care, almost like an uncle and auntie. He gave me his moxa box, and she even massaged my shoulder… This was not part of the treatment, but a gesture that clearly came from the kindness of their hearts. The therapeutic work I ended up having fewer EMDR sessions than initially predicted, but our work was rich and multidimensional: we also talked, I received Bach flower drops prepared personally by Dirk, and I experienced alpha light therapy. After each visit, I received a complete and thoughtful report, which I deeply appreciated. What particularly impressed me was how Dirk was willing to go against his own financial interests (reducing the number of sessions and giving me his moxa rolls, etc.) simply to ensure that I had the freedom and confidence to keep moving forward. 💪 Professionalism and philosophy Dirk is highly specialised and extremely experienced. I would recommend him and New Paradigm to any of my friends without hesitation. Moreover, the philosophy of New Paradigm itself is special: comprehensive, straightforward and very effective. I feel deep gratitude to the universe, and to Dirk, for enabling me to discover this true corner of heaven for people in need of guidance, support and encouragement. 🥰
New Paradigm’s program successfully blends mindfulness practices with modern trauma modalities to create space for new growth and a new sense of hope. Some of the philosophies (waking early, observing silence for the majority of the day, restricted electronics access) may seem intense at first. After completing the program, I would not want it any other way and know it would not be as effective without them. Dirk has a kind of mindful maverick quality to him that makes him a very effective therapist. While grounded in researched backed methods like meditation and EMDR, he diverges from the conventional strategies of talk therapy and seeks to dive into the root of the issue without wasting time with extraneous tangents. He will challenge you, sometimes directly, but never without compassion and your best interest at heart. I found this to be a refreshing approach compared to past experiences with traditional psychologists. After all, most of us have come to New Paradigm’s gate because the conventional methods haven’t yielded much success. It is clear that all the pieces of the program have been well thought out to work together and were fine tuned over many years and many patients. Try to remain open minded, listen more than speak and slowly put the ideas into practice over the two weeks. When the work is challenging, sustenance is all the more important and that’s where Kae comes in to the program with her amazingly delicious, healthy meals and afternoon snacks. Gratitude comes easier in the morning when you know you have three of her meals to enjoy during the day. There is also a fun cooking class towards the end of the retreat and recipes to take home! Sonny is the yoga and fitness instructor who can generally be seen working hard and uplifting people with his positive spirit. He really is the definition of diligence and his morning walks, albeit feeling painfully early at first, became something I looked forward to. If you’re feeling stuck or can’t move on from the past, I would recommend New Paradigm as a potential catalyst for a healthier perspective. None of us can change the past, but we can remodel our view of it to better suit a positive path moving forward. Thanks for all the wisdom, care, food, memories and good laughs. All the best to you Dirk, Kae and Sonny, Sean
The days spent at New Paradigm will forever live in my heart. The place was absolutely beautiful, surrounded by nature and a calming atmosphere. The daily schedule was well-balanced, with meditation sessions starting at dawn, walks in nature, yoga, exercise, pool, sauna, ice baths and massage sessions. The meals were prepared with so much love and care, Kae’s recipes did way more than fuel our bodies! They filled our hearts with joy every time we sat down to eat. Sonny was amazing and very knowledgeable teaching yoga, his calm energy is contagious. Dirk’s guidance, support, knowledge and dedication to pass on the tools and practices I needed to continue creating a path to a more sustainable, productive and happy life, will forever be with me. I honestly didn’t even know what EMDR was when I first got there. I was struggling with intense germaphobia that had started to take over my life. EMDR helped me uncover and release deep fears that I didn’t even fully realize were there. It wasn’t always easy, but it was incredibly effective. For the first time in years, I feel free — free from the constant anxiety, rituals, and avoidance. I can live my life again without fear controlling everything. Day by day, I felt more centered and present, I felt renewed and deeply connected to myself. I would highly recommend New Paradigm to anyone looking for a genuine, transformative life experience. It’s an experience that brought me peace and clarity in a way I’ll never forget.
